Sarah Palin Radio Interviews Maria Sheffield for GA-12

LaDonna Hale Curzon, host and executive producer, Sarah Palin Radio interviewed Maria Sheffield who is running for a Congressional seat in Georgia's 12th Congressional District. Her race is on the National Republican Congressional Committee's radar screen and is a Targeted Top 5 Congressional Pickup Seat. The NRCC did a $900,000 ad purchase in her district.

Sheffield said she is running because our country needs new leadership to take on the issues, not merely cast votes. She said the difference between herself and her primary opponent is that she has been a grassroots volunteer since age 15. "Conservatism is part of my life," she said. Sheffield said she did not "become a Republican just to run for office." Her campaign enjoys strong Tea Party support and is now starting to pick up mainstream support. Sheffield is staunch pro-life and has the endorsement of key pro-life groups such as Susan B. Anthony List, which owns and operates Team Sarah. Barry Goldwater, Jr., who is a colleague of hers, has also endorsed her. She said voters want a candidate who speaks from the heart, not from a Power Point presentation with the aid of consultants.

Though she is running against an incumbent in the general election, GA-12 is a new district and by its drawn lines is 58% Republican. The incumbent was an Obama endorsee, and his voting record is hard left. GA-12 includes a county that has one of the entire country's highest unemployment rates. Sheffield said the economy is the most critical issue in her district, which has lost most of its manufacturing and many of its farmers are also suffering. "I like the idea of Georgia grown, not grown in Mexico or Guatemala," she said.

Sheffield said she has spoken with business owners from both parties and they want to see a tax code that's fair, consistent and not constantly changed. She said business owners have also complained about over-regulation. She has been shown books of regulations three inches thick. She said the time has come to say 'no' to more stimulus and bailouts.

She said the first thing she would do if sworn in is pray for God "to give her the wisdom to make the tough decisions that must be made." She said candidates and politicians do too much talking and not enough listening. She declined to make grand, sweeping promises, but said she would listen to her constituents and fight for what they need.

Happy 18th Birthday, Willow Palin

Willow Bianca Faye Palin was born this day in 1994, missing July 4th by less than 24 hours. Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin was a Wasilla City Councilwoman on Seat E and a hockey mom on the PTA at the time. She wrote in Going Rogue, pages 66 and 67:

"Because Todd was on the Slope a lot, the Carter family usually babysat Track and Bristol during the Monday night meetings. Later in my first council term, the kids started school and i got involved in the PTA. Then our third child, pretty little Willow Bianca Faye, came along. I went into labor with her on the Fourth of July while kayaking with the Menards on Memory Lake. I so wanted a patriotic baby that I paddled as hard as I could to speed up the contractions, but she held out until the next day. After she was born, I took Willow to council meetings with me, toting her in her car seat and rucking her next to my legs under the old wooden council table. I didn't care too much what the good old boys said about it either."

In Gov. Palin Predicts Media Boobery on Breastfeeding, I recounted what Gov. Palin wrote in reference to nursing Willow in a Snugli while cutting a radio ad. The relevant paragraph is also on Page 67 of Going Rogue.

Now, today, 18 years later Willow has transitioned into a strong, fiercely independent adult woman who may some day smash glass ceilings with her own sonic booms. Today, for Willow is not merely a birthday, but a significant rite of passage.

The staff of US for Palin wish Willow a birthday and a future filled with love, joy, health, abundance.

Happy Birthday, Willow!

Bristol Palin today posted on Bristol's Blog:

Guess who turns eighteen today?

You can probably tell how proud I am of Willow. Her name came from a small community that began in 1897 when miners discovered gold on Willow Creek. Also, she was named after Willow Bay, one of my mother’s favorite sports reporters.

As I’ve mentioned before, we’re four years apart. This meant that as we were growing up in the same house, we were each other’s best friends and worst enemies… depending on the day!

Now that we are both mature adults (don’t laugh!) we will probably get along much better. But one thing that will remain the same: I’m always so proud of her!

On Second Thought: Episode 5, Ms. Palin Goes to Washington

Bristol Palin today posted on Bristol's Blog:

Washington, DC is not my type of place. I don’t love being up to my neck in politics, and it’s hard not to be in the nation’s capital. However, it was worth flying down to do a book signing and to see Mom speak.

As many of you know, “Not Afraid of Life” came out last year. (It hit the New York Times best sellers list!!) That meant, I spent much time at book stores around the country signing copies of my books and meeting fans. I met people who voted for my mom in 2008, who voted for me on Dancing with the Stars, and who generally loved all things Palin. I don’t thank you guys enough, but I do appreciate all of you who’ve stuck by me throughout all the drama. You’re the best, and I loved meeting some of you face to face.
