Gov. Palin in NY Times: Will Support Romney if Nominee, but he Must Rally Base

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin last night told the New York Times she would "support Romney 100%" if he were the nominee, but he must rally the GOP's base, much of whom still does not believe in his conservatism. From the interview:

“It does seem that his campaign is having a tough time sort of garnering that — not just that support, but that energy that’s needed,” former Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, a favorite of the [Tea Party] movement, said in an interview late Tuesday. “Whether Romney wins or loses in Michigan tonight, just the fact that he’s had such a fight in his home state is evidence of that blessing not yet being given to him across the board.”

[Gov.] Palin said that if Mr. Romney became the nominee she would support him “100 percent,” but that he still had considerable work to do to get important portions of the party base on his side. Particularly important, she said, are “those that are part of that Tea Party grass-roots movement,” who “really get offended when the establishment of either party tries to anoint the candidate.”

Gov Palin: Because of Supporters, Confidence in Saving Country

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and her father Chuck Heath, Sr. recorded messages of support for Grizzly Fest; and said if it were not for her supporters she would not have confidence in saving our Republic.

Various guests discussed their individual efforts in rooting out corruption and crony capitalism throughout the three-hour online summit. Thomas S. Schmitz, Chairman of the Board, American Grizzlies United talked about how in the 2012 election cycle AGU will focus their efforts on providing volunteers and the general public with information, ideas, and guidance so that they can choose which candidates to give their support to.

Peter Schweitzer author of Throw Them All Out talked about the insider trading game in Washington DC and how the permanent political class enriches themselves at the expense of the rest of us.

The following library comprises the complete transcript of the Grizzly Fest Winter 2012 Summit. Chat-Room

AGU: Crony Capitalism at the Academy Awards

There is an emerging movement that is beginning to influence the local narrative and local grassroots activism here in Hollywood, CA.

American Grizzlies United (AGU) and other engaged citizen activists had a huge success earlier this month. A coalition of grassroots activists came together, set aside the wedge issues, and focused on rooting out crony capitalism and corruption.

And we won.

Here in Los Angeles entrenched crony capitalists had a scam going called CRA. (California Redevelopment Agencies).

It was straight up pay to play corrupt politics and everyone who was paying attention knew it.

The mother of all monuments to Los Angeles crony capitalism is the Hollywood/Highland Complex which houses the Kodak Theatre right here in Hollywood.

If you choose to watch the Academy Awards tomorrow night, here’s a little something to think about while all the open minded and tolerant celebrities gather to pat themselves on the back.

The Hollywood/Highland Complex was a CRA project built for $625 million in tax payer dollars.

Shortly after the complex was built; it was sold for only $201 Million to one of LA City Councilman (and probable Mayoral candidate) Gil Garcetti’s best buddies, the CIM Group.

That is a 67% discount off the construction cost.

But the corruption didn’t stop there. This mayoral wannabe and the other council members gave CIM Group an extra $30 Million in taxpayer dollars to rehab the Kodak Theatre.

That means this one project lost (or stole?) $454 Million in tax payer dollars.

That is close to a $1/2 Billion loss.

And how much incremental property tax dollars does CIM Group pay into the general fund? None. Zero. Zip. Nada.

This is not the capitalism of free men and free markets, of risk, of sacrifice, or reward for hard work and a job well done.

This is the crony capitalism of connections, handouts, and the peddling of corporate welfare.

This is the same crony capitalism that destroyed Europe’s economies.

AGU is honored and proud to say that this scam is now dead.

The CRA-LA is dead because a coalition of grassroots activists, set wedge issues aside, came together, rose up, said HELL NO and brought real change to Los Angeles.

Our work continues…

Obama’s Anti-American Energy Policies Invite the Next Crisis

Governor Palin today posted on Facebook:

President Obama doesn’t have an energy plan. He has an energy speech that he continues to give regardless of the facts or his obvious failures. He likes to take credit for actions initiated by the last administration (without telling you that he’s reversed or stymied many of those successes).

We should not be surprised by his detached attitude about America’s pain at the pump. He’s not interested in lowering the price of gas because exorbitantly high gas prices are one of his campaign promises. In September 2008, candidate Obama’s Energy Secretary in-waiting said: “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe.” That’s one campaign promise they’re working hard to fulfill!

President Obama notes that instability in the Middle East causes short-term spikes in the price of oil. But that is precisely why we should take every opportunity to drill here and drill now to lessen our dependence on these dangerous foreign regimes. President Obama’s lack of action simply invites the next oil crisis. It’s as if the White House is purposefully making us more dependent on foreign countries – from running up an unsustainable debt that must be financed by foreign debtors, to constantly apologizing and walking on eggshells around dictators who control oil supplies.

When it comes to our energy security, the only thing holding us back is the lack of political will. We have the resources, the ingenuity, and the manpower. And we need the jobs! Any economic recovery will be hampered by these rising gas prices. And I guarantee the rising prices will only get worse and will halt job growth further.

We must never forget that energy development, job creation, and national security are inextricably linked. Access to affordable and secure energy is the key to economic growth, which is the key to job growth. Securing a stable domestic supply of energy will lead to a more peaceful and prosperous America – an America that’s not subject to the whims of dictators who can cut off energy supplies or shut down the Strait of Hormuz to exports passing through.

President Obama repeatedly claims that there is no “silver bullet” to lower gas prices. But, in fact, we do have proof that the promise of future drilling does lead to immediate price relief as oil producers plan to expand their production.

So what are Obama’s solutions? As luck would have it, they coincide with subsidizing his friends and campaign donors. What a fortuitous coincidence in an election year! While you’re paying $5-a-gallon for gas, President Obama has been picking “winners” and “losers” in the free market. He’s decided that conventional resource development that produces the fuel we use to drive our cars and power our economy are “losers.” His “winners” are the bankrupt green energy companies that his campaign donors invest in. Unfortunately his real “losers” are the American public who are once again hit with massive gas prices (at least those who can’t afford luxury electric cars like the Obama-subsidized Volt that gets 40 miles per battery charge, or like the Obama-subsidized Tesla that turns into a “brick” when the battery completely discharges and then costs $40,000 to repair.)

What are the real solutions? Well, whether you support Newt in 2012 or not, he makes a lot of sense in this video, which is why President Obama targeted it for mockery yesterday. Newt is right that we need to “stop bowing and start drilling.” And not only can’t a gun rack fit in a Volt, but the government will take away our pick-up trucks when they pry the steering wheel “from our cold, dead hands.”

In this video, Newt explains some commonsense, pro-American solutions to the problems President Obama causes with his terrifyingly naïve assault on U.S. energy production.

With just the stroke of a pen, President Obama could lead us in the direction of real energy security and reduce our oil imports threatened by Iran’s threats to shut down the Strait of Hormuz and. Here are just a few commonsense measures we can do right now and most of them don’t require any new legislation or regulations:

Open Alaska to drilling. Billions and billions of U.S. crude (and hundreds of trillions of cubic feet of clean natural gas) sit untapped up here in the far north, my friends. We have the TAPS pipeline and infrastructure; we invite the development! Open ANWR. Think of how much safer and secure we would be if we had done this decades ago.

Build the Keystone Pipeline. President Obama doesn’t understand we live in a land woven with untold miles of pipe to carry safe energy supplies to protect and prosper America. Common sense dictates we need another one now to secure our energy future. It is key. It is the Keystone. If we’re worried about instability in the Middle East, it makes no sense to shun safe and reliable oil from Canada. Obviously, China understands this, and we should too.

Drill for natural gas. Natural gas is the future. It’s clean, it’s green, and we’ve got lots of it. Whether we use it to power natural-gas cars or to run natural-gas power plants that charge electric cars – or ideally for both – natural gas can act as a clean “bridge fuel” to a future when more renewable sources are available.

There are many more steps we need in order to establish a true energy plan to secure our future. But these three steps, plus increased resource development in the Lower 48 and reversing President Obama’s nonsensical, knee-jerk, anti-American energy shut down of off-shore developments would create hundreds of thousands of jobs as millions of barrels of oil every single day would flow under American control, and lessen our dependence on the Persian Gulf.

It’s time our country had a real energy plan that include a genuine all-of-the-above approach that doesn’t ignore conventional resource development. We need the jobs, we need the energy, and we need the security.

Happy Presidents' Day

Governor Palin today posted on Facebook:

Celebrating George Washington’s birthday is an American tradition to honor our first president. Though Presidents’ Day is now the more commonly-used term, and has expanded to include all presidents, the legal term for this federal holiday remains Washington’s Birthday.

We honor President Washington, not because he was flawless; he was not. He was, however, the epitome of self-sacrifice—both as a soldier and a statesman. It was that sacrifice that helped make America what it was destined to become. We honor him because of what he accomplished and the manner in which he approached service to this nation: with a servant’s heart.

I am on record as acknowledging President Washington as my favorite Founder precisely because of that heart. He did not seek power. He accepted it reluctantly. He answered the call, offered himself up in the name of service, and helped to usher in a new day. At a time when he could have remained in office perpetually, as some expected, he chose to return to life as a citizen rather than seek a third term. He fulfilled his destiny, and his legacy is secure.

It is refreshing to reflect on one who was so far removed in spirit from the inside baseball that too often defines politics now. America celebrates President Washington for his decision to serve for the right reasons. Today, we could certainly use a little more Washington in DC and a little less BS in Washington.

Happy Presidents’ Day.

Alaska Dispatch Myth Busts Parnell, MAC and others on ACES

As Alaska's Legislative Session goes into full swing, Amanda Coyne of the Alaska Dispatch busted six myths that pertain to Alaska's Clear and Equitable Share (ACES). US for Palin has discussed ACES several times over the past year, starting during last year's session when Gov. Parnell tried to have ACES repealed. At that time, he went on record bizarrely asking the Alaskan people "how much is too much?" regarding revenues collected under ACES. Under Alaska's State Constitution, the people - not corporations - own all of the state's mineral and energy resources. Gov. Parnell, and special interest groups such as "Make Alaska Competitive" (MAC) failed in their designs on ACES last year and are trying this year again to have it repealed.

One of Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s signature accomplishments, ACES is a graduated tax system, whereby taxes on oil and gas revenues increase as the value of the resource increases – in the case of oil above $52 per barrel. A portion of this money goes into state savings and another portion is distributed to all Alaskans via the Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD). Another point often missed when discussing ACES is that it contains a built-in incentive to explore and drill new fields by levying little or no tax when these operations are being conducted. Tax credits are given to develop new infrastructure and reinvest in existing infrastructure.

ACES was developed with strong bi-partisan support to supplant the Petroleum Profits Tax. Governor Palin signed ACES into law on December 19, 2007.

In her first of two articles, Coyne debunks the following myths:

  1. "Oil companies are always reliable business partners." - Coyne delineated several examples where the opposite is in fact true.
  2. "Alaska oil companies are taxed 80 to 90 percent" - This whopper of a fish tale is put out by MAC. Coyne delineated the actual amount. It's 39%.
  3. "North Dakota is so much rosier than Alaska" - Some will cite North Dakota's 11%, which in reality is 13%. But, they fail to account for the 20% take that private landowners get from the oil companies in North Dakota, resulting in a rate that is comparable with Alaksa's.

In Part II, Coyne debunks three more myths:

  1. "Jobs in droves are heading south" - Coyne points out how in Alaska's energy sector, "hiring has reached record levels - an all-time high."
  2. "The pipeline is running dry" - Coyne provides all the different dire predictions about when the Tans-Alaska Pipeline is to run dry - almost always within the next five to 10 years. The actual time is closer to 2068.
  3. "Alaska is running out of oil" - a corollary to the the pipeline myth, the bottom line is Alaska will not run out of oil for a long time.

ACES works and should be left alone. Alaskans are encouraged to write, fax, or call their State Representatives and state Senators and have them Vote NO on HB-110.

Iron Dogs Palin and Davis Off!

Four-Time Iron Dog Champion and Seven-Time Winner Todd Palin today began his 2,000+ mile Iron Dog Race at Big Lake, Alaska along with his partner Scott Davis. The duo constitute Team 11 and were off at 1529 / 3:29 PM EST. The Iron Dog takes racers through some of the most dangerous and inhospitable terrain on the planet at speeds reaching over 100 mph and in temperatures that can dip to -70F. Todd Palin's wins did not come easy. His partner, Scott Davis was injured in the 2010 race and the team scratched. Palin field-repaired his snow machine last year some 35 miles shy of the finish line. Even with the time lost on repairs, the Palin-Quam Team were Second Place Winners.

AGU: HELP WANTED; Grizzly Delegates for Tampa

Introduction written by American Grizzlies United (AGU) Board Member R. F. Lawrence

We’ve been hearing the buzz for weeks on the possibility of a contested convention - one in which no candidate arrives in Tampa with the required majority of delegates to claim the nomination. Regardless of whether the GOP actually arrives at a contested convention or not, it would behoove us all to have a convention attended largely by delegates of ethical standards and a loyalty to the interests of the people of their state, not staffed by ambitious party loyalists and insiders whose main goal may be simply to further their career. It is therefore imperative that we all properly educate ourselves about the rules regarding the convention, the selection of the GOP nominee, and the election of the delegates to the convention.

The simple answer to the question of how to become a delegate to the national convention is that there is no simple answer. The process varies by state, and even within each state, the process may vary by county. How each county selects the representatives to the district convention is managed by the county leadership. Information about how your precinct and county will be represented should be available from your local GOP county website. If you do a search online on “How to become a delegate,” you will doubtless find some tutorials, instructions, and links to various state pages. Ron Paul’s supporters have been extremely organized and proactive about researching and disseminating this information online. Check the sources and the dates for any information you read online. The best resource is your county GOP – they ultimately make the rules.

Although the deadlines to be nominated up the delegate ladder may have passed in many states, there’s still plenty of time to get involved in others. Usually, the delegate selection process is not started until after a state holds its primary.

Whatever happens at the convention, we need to make sure that we send good people as delegates.

R. F. Lawrence

Board Member; American Grizzlies United

AGU: HELP WANTED; Grizzly Delegates for Tampa!

Because the individual rules for selecting delegates vary by state (and even within each state, the process can vary by county) you are going to have to do your own homework.

Delegates are chosen at the various levels of the party conventions. The selection process begins at the precinct (or district) level, then marches on to the county level, and lastly the state level; where the national convention delegates are selected.

Here are some resources that will help you become a Grizzly Delegate for your state:

Use the Freedom Atlas to talk to others in your state who have been been through the delegate selection process.

How to Become a Delegate

How to Become a Delegate to the National Convention to be held the Week of August 27, 2012 in Tampa Bay, Florida

See all you Grizzlies in Tampa!
