Alaska Governor Sarah Palin [on July 10, 2009 in Fairbanks] has signed
House Bill 201 into law. The bill, sponsored by Representative Craig
Johnson, changes the expiration date of a concealed handgun permit from
five years from the date of issue to the person's birthday. “The right
to own guns and use them responsibly is something I and many other
Alaskans cherish,” Governor Palin said. “We have to be vigilant to
protect the rights of individual Alaskans to own and use guns. I
appreciate the work of our legislature in standing up for the
Constitution” (Second Amendment, 2009, ¶1).
The governor also
signed four resolutions. HJR 17, sponsored by Representative John
Harris, urges Congress not to pass HR 45. The federal legislation would
put burdensome licensing and registration controls on individual gun
owners (Second Amendment, 2009, ¶2).
SJR 10, sponsored by
Senator Joe Thomas, urges Congress to pass S 371. The legislation would
ensure that citizens of each state who are licensed or authorized by
their home state to carry a concealed weapon, could do so in another
state as long as they comply with the laws of that state. Currently,
states offer this right of reciprocity through individual agreements
that can vary from state to state (Second Amendment, 2009, ¶3).
HJR
27, sponsored by Representative Mike Kelly, reasserts states’ rights.
The resolution reminds the federal government that the 10th Amendment
limits the scope of federal powers to those specifically granted by the
Constitution of the United States and no more (Second Amendment, 2009,
¶4).
SJR 3 is a resolution sponsored by Senator Gene Therriault.
The resolution expresses support to Congress for repealing the ban on
carrying a firearm on National Park Service lands. Congress did so in
May, and the repeal becomes effective February 2010 (Second Amendment,
2009, ¶5).
Commentary
There is
no elected official anywhere in this nation or in any part of the world
for that matter who is as strong an advocate for our right to keep and
bear arms as Governor Palin. This is why a gunsmith custom made a .50

Governor
Palin is a life member of the National Rifle Association. She is
proficient with rifles likely up to .375 H&H Magnum, 12 guage
shotguns, and of course the M-4/M-16. Anything within 300 yards of her
that she locks in on is hers...Give her a .338 Lapua with some minimal
training and her effective range extends to a mile. Lest anyone forget,
she is a veteran moose hunter and through all stages from the hunt to the taking, to the field-dressing, butchering, cooking and serving. Governor Palin is one few women alive today who do this.
Over
the past several months, this blog editor has read numerous accounts on
social network sites of how Governor Palin's likeness -- a picture,
action figure, or even a life-sized cardboard cut-out -- stands guard
over gun closets, racks, cabinets, and gun stores across the nation.
Obama
meanwhile is often honored sarcastically as "employee of the month" in
gun stores -- because his threatened attempts to gut the Second
Amendment are responsible for the big spike in gun sales since his
election. Talk about a stimulus plan....
Her likeness stands
guard over where ever we store our guns (to include this editor's gun
closet), because Governor Sarah Louise Heath Palin is the guardian angel of the Second Amendment.
