AK Gov Sarah Palin Mourns PFC Nicolas H. J. Gideon, 20

Private First Class Nicolas H. J. Gideon, 20

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin offered her condolences to the family and friends of a Fort Richardson soldier who died in Afghanistan. Private First Class Nicolas H. J. Gideon, 20, of Murrieta, California died Monday of injuries sustained when his mounted patrol received rocket-propelled grenade and small arms fire (Ft. Richardson, 2009, ¶1).

“Private First Class Gideon was a brave American who served his country with honor,” Governor Palin said. “His loyalty and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Todd and I send his family and fellow soldiers our deepest condolences during this difficult time” (Ft. Richardson, 2009, ¶2).

Private First Class Gideon was assigned to the 1st Squadron, 40th Cavalry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division (Ft. Richardson, 2009, ¶3).

A state flag, along with a letter of condolence, will be sent to his family (Ft. Richardson, 2009, ¶4).

Commentary

As a Commander-in-Chief, this is a most painful task to perform, simultaneously, these are fitting and beautiful tributes.

This blog publisher has noticed that Governor Palin does these tributes for any soldier who has fallen, and who had been based out of an Alaska military installation -- regardless of whether they lived out-of-state prior.

Governor Palin's son, Track, 20 is serving in Iraq and she saw him off on September 11, 2008 along with all the other troops she bid farewell to that day.

She understands completely the sacrifices these young men and women make serving our country and knows the meaning of the ultimate sacrifice.
